Hi, it’s Morty again!
Well, our road trip is sadly over and I’m back in my new home in Calgary. But let’s backtrack, with some of what Michele and Lee-Ann got up to at the end of their trip! After my last post we all headed out to Huntington Beach in Southern California (here’s a picture of the beach, to make you all jealous).
It was a beautiful day, the sun, sand, sea (and the girls other two favourite s’s: surfers and six-packs). Those silly girls thought they could lay in the sun for the afternoon with no sunscreen. Mr. Sun sure showed them! After lying on the beach and walking down the pier, we all headed to vegas that night. By the time we rolled onto the strip at 11, the girls were sun burnt bright red, exhausted, and in serious pain. So their first night in vegas was spent taking cool showers, slathering on aloe vera, popping some advil, and whining about how much it hurt. Those two really are party animals!
They made up for it the rest of the weekend tho- what takes away pain? Alcohol! Unfortunately Slink and I weren’t allowed to come out in Vegas since we’re underage (and didn’t fit in their tiny purses) so we just sat in the hotel the whole weekend. But M & L tell us that the weekend was filled with giant slushy drinks (here’s a pic of Lee-Ann with her first one), and these other highlights:
Thursday: L & M went to New-York New-York and rode the roller coaster twice. They really enjoyed that, and it was Lee-Anns first upsidedown roller coaster experience! She loved it. Thursday afternoon they also went to -5 ice bar at Monte Carlo. This was a bar where they gave them gloves, boots, and a coat, and all the seats, decorations, and glasses you drink out of are made of ice! And it’s -5, obviously. The bar was nothing compared to some Calgary winter mornings the girls have spent waiting for the bus.
Friday: Canucks game day! M & L donned canucks jerseys once again, this time in ~38 degree weather! They went to a sports bar and got lucky with prime seating, a booth with a personal tv screen, and then two giant projector screens right in front of them! The girls said there were a tonnnn of Canucks fans there- probably 100 or so? With at least 75 in jerseys, and everyone was singing along to the national anthem! It was such a great atmosphere, especially great with the big win. Here are L & M with a couple other canucks fans from the table next to them. The crazy part is, Lee-Ann and Michele met these girls the week before at a bar in San Francisco! These girls are from Surrey, BC, and were basically doing the exact same trip we were. Also at the pub two men from North Vancouver really needed somewhere to sit to watch the game, so L & M were kind enough to let them sit at their table. In return, the men were kind enough to cover the entire tab.
After the game M & L went and saw a cirque show- Ka- at the MGM grand. It was good, amazing theatrics, but wasn’t quite as acrobatic as the girls were hoping. Michele would recommend Le Reve or Love over it as far as vegas cirque-style shows go.
Saturday: The girls spend alllll afternoon down at the pool, soaking their feet by the waterfall, napping in the shade, and wading in the pool in the sunshine drinking, you guessed it, huge slushy drinks. It was a very relaxing afternoon, and much cooler than walking around in the heat all day! That night the girls got all dressed up, looking amazing if I do say so myself. I don’t have any details on their evening, so you probably won’t get any either, but word on the street is that their evening perfectly epitomized “what happens in vegas stays in vegas”.
Yesterday we left vegas around 11:30, and drove, and drove and drove, and then drove some more. In total we drove for about 22 hours straight, covering 5 states as we started in Nevada, crossed over a top piece of Arizona, then thru Utah, Idaho, and finally Montana, before crossing the border at 5am. We got back to Calgary at 9am, and immediately all went home to nap, after me and Michele parted ways with Slink and Lee-Ann. Now Michele is unpacking as I write this! Thanks for reading about our travel adventures, I hope you enjoyed. I think Michele and Lee-Ann had an amazing trip, I know Slink and I did! Hopefully we can do more traveling with the girls, I hear they get to go to a bunch of conferences in cool places! Philly and New York in October perhaps? Stayed tuned for hopefully more blogging adventures with Slink and Morty (yes, I am pushing to change the blog name to that).
Until next time,
Morty, Slink, Lee-Ann, and Michele
